When Amazon.com launched in 1995, it was with the mission “to be Earth’s most customer-centric company.” What does this mean? It's simple. We're a company that obsesses over our customers. Our actions, goals, projects, programs and inventions begin and end with the customer top of mind. In other words, we start with the customer and work backwards. When we hit on something that is really working for customers, we double-down on it with hopes to turn it into an even bigger success. However, it’s not always as clean as that. Inventing is messy, and over time, it’s certain that we’ll fail at some big bets too. At Amazon we’re constantly looking for leaders who can invent, think big, have a bias for action, and who want to deliver for customers, those principles look very familiar to the men and women who served their country in the Armed Forces. Due to Amazon’s constant and sustained growth, we need strong, dynamic leaders who can harness the skills developed within the military to make a significant impact on the business. To find our live roles, search ‘military’ at Amazon.jobs.

Even though we are a small business we have a global expert presence and our customers rely on us. To maintain this level of service we need strong leadership, flexibility and excellent practical engineering expertise throughout our organisation. We do not run complex systems with large amounts of management overhead, but empower and trust our teams to do the best for our customers and for the business. We are, therefore, always on the lookout for people with these skills and desire to become involved in a close-knit team who are passionate about the service we provide our customers.
Haig Housing is proud to have served the British Veteran community for over 100 years. As the leading housing provider for ex-Service personnel in the UK, the charity now owns over 1,500 properties across 50 locations.
The Trust assists eligible Veterans in housing need, whether they are transitioning into civilian life or are simply in need of a helping hand.
Located across the UK, properties are a mix of family-sized and smaller houses, flats and maisonettes on small well-managed estates. These estates range in size from as small as six properties to our largest estate in Morden with 360 homes. Built mostly in the 1930s, 1950s and 1990s, the most recent new development in Morden, was opened by the Trust’s Patron, Her Majesty The Queen, in 2019, creating eco-friendly houses designed for the future.
Properties are available to qualifying beneficiaries at an affordable, charitable rent. As the leading housing provider in the UK we offer advice, guidance and signposting to other Veterans charities and other organisations to assist those in housing need.
The Trust also provides a small number of joint purchase properties for severely wounded or injured Service personnel and Veterans. This scheme enables the purchase of a home in a suitable location close to family, friends and support network. In this way the Trust continues to provide appropriate housing for those in need of rebuilding their lives following traumatic life-changing injuries.

Leafield was founded in 1992 and its core business concerned the management of naval stock for the range of vessels originally operated by the Royal Navy, but which are now in use serving overseas navies. We were, and remain, specifically responsible for the disposal of naval material declared surplus by the UK Ministry of Defence. Over recent years, this core business has developed to cover a much wider range of services including procurement, management of obsolescence and particularly finding creative solutions to our customers problems, such as the way we have taken over the overhaul and support of Tyne and Olympus engines from Rolls-Royce. We provide a ‘one stop shop’ for our customer base which includes international navies and blue-chip defence businesses. The Company has an excellent reputation for its engineering expertise and for consistently procuring a comprehensive range of fully certified and cost-effective spares which even includes having new tooling and parts made when this is the only solution.
We are based in Wiltshire between Swindon & Bath, but Covid-19 has proved to us that we have a certain amount of flexibility around the way we work. We are a small team in which everyone is very hands-on, we have a great working environment and very much a “one-team” culture, probably helped by the fact that many of staff are ex-military, and in particular ex RN.
The Company currently services customers across 16 countries and operates from its headquarters and storage facility in the South West of England, some 70 miles west of London. Our services can include installations for our customers, so we have in recent years sent teams to, amongst other places, Romania, Brazil, Chile and Pakistan.

Sigma Polaris provides data-driven candidate-assessment and shortlisting technology to help HR professionals easily and quickly make well-informed decisions without bias. Our technology saves up to 90% of pre-screening time, finds 4-5 times more qualified candidates than manual methods, and prevents an average of 29 cases of biased valuations per hire.
“Sigma Polaris’ tech allows us to refine our process to effectively find the best candidates faster. It’s really simple to read the profiles and understand the data that we can use all the way up the hiring chain.” – Opus Talent Solutions (International Recruitment Firm).
Sigma Polaris’ technology uses data-driven online assessments to profile candidates on Hard and Soft skills, e.g. Arithmetic/Verbal Reasoning abilities, or preference towards Team vs. Solo work. HR professionals can then easily locate the best-suited to a vacancy out of 100s or 1000s of applicants for a role by setting a vacancy-profile prioritising the different skills and work-preferences. This takes less than a minute and immediately rearranged the candidates in order of suitability. The best candidates can then be contacted for more information or directly called to interview.

The STEM Returners project is a programme to help employers recruit, develop and retain the best available talent, and to enable highly qualified and experienced candidates to re-start their career. It aims to redress the gender imbalance within STEM, and work with employers to view CV gaps in a different way. Operating within an incredibly skills short market, this scheme will allow employers to attract candidates from a new talent pool, and give candidates a supported route back to their career.
STEM Returners, alongside its employer partners, facilitates paid short-term employment placements for professionals returning to work after a career break. Alongside the experience gained from the work placement, the STEM Returners project will also provide support for the candidate in advice, career coaching, networking opportunities and mentoring. All of the candidates going through the programme will also have the opportunity to restart their career in a permanent position at the end of the programme.
This project is co-supported by the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology and the Women’s Engineering Society. We passionately believe that providing a mechanism to motivated and experienced candidates to return to STEM, will help to create the diverse, agile and innovative STEM workforce that the UK needs for today and the future.
