Zurich in the UK today launches an Engineer Surveyor Apprenticeship programme in partnership with Safety Assessment Federation and endorsed by multiple Engineering Institutes including SOE, IMechE and the IET.
As part of its commitment to provide more opportunities for budding Engineer Surveyors and equipping people with skills for the future, Zurich’s programme was developed with the industry lead Trade Association (SAFed) in response to skills shortages in the sector.
The level-four qualification is now open to applicants to provide a two year scheme starting in January 2022 – the closing date for applications is 10 October 2021. Zurich’s apprentices will get the opportunity to learn in their roles, developing their skills while studying for a qualification. Candidates will be supported by a mentor throughout.
Zurich’s Engineering Inspection is an essential service that is provided to customers to help keep them, and in many cases their customers safe. Millions of these specialist examinations are carried out each year on equipment and machinery to ensure that it is safe for continued use.
Mark Stephenson, Zurich Engineering Training Manager, says “We’re delighted to have been part of the successful development of such a high quality and unique qualification and are incredibly excited to be adding it to our portfolio of training solutions. Every part of the programme is relevant to the role of the Engineer Surveyor and focuses on not only technical competence, but also professionalism, planning & organisation.
“This apprenticeship scheme will not only provide new opportunities to attract new and diverse talent into the industry, but it also will shape their learning in a structured way that will lead to competence and confidence on the job.”
Caroline Hamilton, Chief Executive of the Safety Assessment Federation Limited said, “SAFed are proud to be the programme sponsor for the Engineer Surveying apprenticeship. The aim with the apprentice scheme is as per any SAFed technical work, to bring together the industry as one. As such, we seek relevancy and most importantly consistency in the academic content, such that a robust level of learning and development is available in the engineering inspection sector.”
Zurich’s UK wide apprenticeship programme has delivered over 300 apprenticeships over the past four years. Through its different schemes, Zurich sets out to recruit a diverse range of talent into the business as well as providing opportunities for existing staff to grow and upskill.
